Mr. Tamrat Alemayehu, born and raised in Yirgacheffe, processes this coffee in the washing station that is named after him, the Tamrat Alemayehu washing station.
In 2019, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea authority implemented a new regulation that washing station owners or single farm producers can sell their coffee directly to the buyers without going through the Commodity Exchange System (ECX). This new regulation has opened up more direct-trade opportunities and because of that, we are able to buy this beautiful coffee. This also allows for more traceability for coffee producers in Ethiopia.
This coffee grows in the town of Kochere inside the district of Gedeo. Its planted in red clay-loam, where the temperature ranges between 12-24 degrees Celsius year round. After the cherry is picked, it is then processed at the Tamrat Alemayehu washing station, fermenting between 36-72 hours and then dried for 13-15 days.
